BMW North America issues "stop sale" notice for all petrol motorcycles
BMW of North America is dedicated to providing vehicles to our customers that meet their expectations. To ensure that our vehicles are of the highest industry standards, BMW performs ongoing testing and evaluation.Following a recent quality analysis, BMW is pursuing measures to further evaluate the material used in a component of its motorcycle evaporative system, which may not have been produced to material specifications.
As a result, BMW of North America is issuing a temporary, voluntary stop-sale for all new and pre-owned BMW motorcycle models in dealer inventory, except for the CE 04.
This temporary stop sale is not safety related and BMW owners may continue to ride their motorcycles as normal.

My dad complains about how uncomfortable his #Harley bikes are for long days of riding because of the vibration.
Maybe Harleys don't actually make good touring bikes. 🤔 #motorcycle

I really don’t care whether someone is riding a “regular” bicycle or an e-bike. I care that they’re out, getting some exercise, and doing so safely - that they aren’t riding outside their abilities.
Whether they’re faster or slower than me is irrelevant; it’s not a race. Just enjoy, be considerate, and don’t push your boundaries too much.

I feel like most of the statistics that tout the danger of #motorcycle riding come from the demographic of people who typically ride motorcycles: risk-takers. Either young hotshots who "pretend race" on the road, or old guys who have a propensity of riding drunk. If you ride with care, learn good technique, and make good decisions, the risks within your control are much less. The skill ceiling is pretty high and the learning curve is long, but that's what makes it worth it to me. :)
That said, the risks outside of your control (other people on the road, road conditions, etc.) are definitely more hazardous when riding a motorcycle than when you're driving a car. Gotta be on guard and plan accordingly when out there!

Ended up at the front of a sportbike group from Skykomish to Monroe. The guy behind me gave me a fist bump while we were all stopped at the first stoplight in Monroe.
Felt pretty validating. #motorcycle

I have a similar one in green as a project bike. I should get it out of the corner it’s sitting in and put it in a space where I can finally get around to tinkering with it.

I was walking home yesterday along one of the major arterials (A) yesterday when I heard an ambulance siren also headed along arterial A toward where it has an intersection with arterial B. It waited at the intersection for a moment, then I heard a loud #Harley blasting down arterial B and saw it zip across the intersection at high speed.
This is another reason why I don't want to be associated with Harley culture. #motorcycle

Thanks!
The 1000SX is a great bike, and still on my (extremely long) list of potential bikes to buy in the future. 😁
Compared to the Ninja 650, I like that the 1000SX has matching hard panniers and cruise control. It's a shame that the Ninja 650 missed out on those because I probably don't need the extra power of a 1000 cc bike.

How do folks feel about the CBR650R? (It has a 648cc inline-4, unlike other 650cc sportbikes.) #Honda #motorcycle 🏍️
My legs are too long for someing as committed as a ZX-6R, and I'm guessing that would also apply to a CBR600RR. :(

Just ordered a new #motorcycle #saddle with @clover's help. Her help is important because she'll be riding as my passenger. :)

What a birthday weekend! I got to test ride a ZX-6R at a Kawasaki vendor day at the Cycle Barn in Marysville, then have a fun ride out to the Leavenworth area. Unfortunately, I got separated from @clover due to a fiery car crash on US 2 and had to spend a night alone in Gold Bar. The next day, I met up with her at the lovely cabin we rented and we had a chill time in the central Cascades, which wrapped up with listening to rain the morning before we returned home. #motorcycle
The dog survived the crash, by the way.

There are still plenty of older used Japanese V-twins on the market though.

in reply to Sam Whited • • •@sam I've never ridden a Harley, but by all accounts, they seem about as reliable as any non-Japanese brand ever since AMF sold the company in 1981. The AMF years seems to be when their reliability was at its worst and they became widely known for leaking oil everywhere.
I wouldn't have any reliability concerns about owning a modern Harley, especially as they're still relatively simple, and both parts and mechanics are everywhere.

in reply to Neil E. Hodges • • •I love the aesthetic and design of Harley bikes, but between the outrageous prices, vibrations, and heavy clutch lever, I don't know if they're the bikes for me.
I'll definitely get me an Iron 883 someday though. It's always been a dream bike. I've got to at least try it, and I'm sure it won't be hard to sell if I end up not liking it.

If you haven't seen them, it's a plastic lever that clips onto the throttle tube. It lets me hold the throttle open with the weight of my wrist and almost no grip on the tube itself. Seems a world of difference.
Your dad might find them helpful - there are Harley models.
