Seems like cars and road design today give some drivers a sense of invincibility.
Maybe that's what needs to change.

First ride in a week due to whatever respiratory illness that was. I couldn't go 100% without feeling sick due to slightly reduced lung capacity, but it wasn't nearly as bad as post-COVID a while back. #cycling #bicycle #seabikes #BikeTooter

Today's ride was much more enjoyable now that I don't feel like I'm not getting any air.

I wouldn’t call it dumb. Outdated, yes, definitely. But not dumb; it was enacted for a reason, and it accomplished its goal: to make children’s bikes safer. It looks dumb now because we have technology that wasn’t available at the time the law was written; but that doesn’t make it dumb.
It needs to be updated in line with what technology can do now. On this, I’m in full agreement. I just wish people would use the right terminology to describe these things: outdated; outmoded; obsolete. Not judge laws from 50 years ago in line with modern day expectations, as if they’re being legislated today.

Yes, he did address the climate in which it it was enacted in his video, and said that it made sense then. He also said that it needs to be updated based on today's technology.
in reply to Neil E. Hodges
Yup. I'm taking issue with the click-baity headline rather than the content of the video, really. That sort of stuff really irks me. We're on the same page on the crucial matter.

Is there anything more “bicycle touring” than eating on the side of the road? #bicycle #cycling #mastobikes

Indeed!
Long ago I had friends in the bicycle courier brigades of Toronto. They all pretty much universally considered racing stripes a badge of honour and had major diss for anyone with fenders. I guess it was proof they were out working in the worst of it.

Ran into Steven Frey while out on my usual #bicycle ride yesterday, whose custom #Trek conversions have been featured in Bicycle Quarterly articles like this one. He was with his wife and son, both of whom have their own Freks. (Oddly enough, he wasn't riding a Frek himself, but his ride was a very nice build nonetheless.) I had no idea he lived in #Seattle!
His general Trek to Frek conversion process involves tweaking things here and there with the frame, which may include adding centerpull brake studs, as well as custom components. The article linked above is an example of his work.

If I'm just outside and not being active, I can bundle up enough to keep warm. Same applies for when riding a motorcycle.
But when I'm being active, if I do that, I end up soaking my inner clothing layers with sweat and end up freezing even worse. Even wool inner layers don't prevent that. #cycling #bicycle

I've tried both synthetic and Merino base layers, but my torso just loves to sweat! :(

thin wool baselayer + Gore Windstopper shell works for me for up to 60 minutes running. The wool gets wet but still insulates. The Gore controls evaporative cooling.

Kind of wild how the California Superbike #motorcycle track racing course significantly improved my #bicycle handling skills as well. Now I follow this process when starting a turn:
And lately, I've started consciously noticing the feedback from #3, so I can get a better feel for for the bike turns.
- Consciously point the wheel the opposite way I’m turning.
- Lean the bike the appropriate amount.
- Let the front wheel turn according to the caster effect to stabilize.

Darktable can denoise, but it has its limits. If the denoise filter is applied too strongly, textured stuff looks too smooth.

I very much prefer roads that don't have such kind of "bicycle infrastructure", for various reasons. See for example the roads I used on my bike ride yesterday.

I discovered that the existing Velo Orange decaleur wouldn't work because the head tube on my new Crust Romanceur 4.0 was much longer than the one on my Soma Stanyan, so I decided to just set up a second decaleur using the existing Gilles Berthoud mount.
Finally got to get out and ride my new Crust Romanceur yesterday. The ride is super plush with the 2" tires, but plenty agile with the small 26" rims! This iteration also finally added thru-axles, which are one of my requirements for disc brakes today after dealing with them with QRs for years. Only problem now is that the saddle doesn't have enough setback, but I have a specific replacement saddle in mind. #cycling #bicycle #seabikes (1, 2)

I feel like e-bikes are more like a more approachable version of motorscooters for a lot of people, with the benefit of the option to get exercise, as well as often having the ability to get away from car traffic depending on bicycle infrastructure. #cycling #bicycle #motorcycle #scooter
