After learning how to ride a #motorcycle with a manual transmission, I lost interest in riding motorscooters because they weren't engaging. (The CVTs are too boring for me.) That's also why my next car will be stick shift.
in reply to Neil E. Hodges

That's tempting, but I don't think they've been available in Australia for some time. Maybe Honda will bring them back soon.

Been feeling really "off" lately. Probably need a good #motorcycle trip away from home this weekend.

Rode my #Honda CRF450RL to my parents' place and back today. It's honestly not too bad on the freeway, but isn't super happy going over 70 MPH. Aside from that, I'm still finding the best technique to put a single foot down at a stop rather that having to have both dangle since I can barely reach. #motorcycle #dualsport
in reply to Neil E. Hodges

Also, the throttle is a bit touchy, but that's probably what I get for choosing a 450cc thumper that weighs less than 300 pounds. 🤷

"MotoGP" is short for "Motorcycle General Practitioner". #motorcycle.

#Seattle area folks should keep an eye out for this #motorcycle rider. He's a pretty chill guy. (It's not me, but I have chatted with him before.)

Riding a #motorcycle for years and growing older have made me extremely skittish and beyond careful in traffic. While that's a good thing for motorcycle riding, that makes me a very unfun backseat driver for @clover because I am legitimately scared at times. While I don't turn it into fights very often, we do both end up worn out after a while in the car. :(
in reply to Neil E. Hodges

Aside from trying to not be like that anymore when in the car, I think I'm going to start riding a motorcycle when going to places with her while she drives. It'll be more fun for both of us.

in reply to Neil E. Hodges

this was just an idle comment, i'd certainly not get anything without more research

(The joke is that Harleys boom and sportbikes zoom.)

Had a #dream last night where I rode my dual-sport. Guess I should do that next chance I have a free day. #dreams #motorcycle (Original)

Maybe someday I'll get a chance to ride a VFR800. #motorcycle #honda

in reply to Neil E. Hodges

I remember those! However I ended up with a V45 Sabre (1983) as my first street bike, and now I've got a V45 Magna (1984).
in reply to Greg A. Woods

Nice. I was saw a guy riding two-up with a woman on the back on a Sabre while out riding in the boonies. The square headlight and other styling cues looked very strange to me at the time.

The Magna still looks like a cruiser, but the Sabre doesn't really have a modern equivalent. I was taken in by the more electronic dash at the time, complete with an LCD digit for the gear indicator.

I still think it's funny how my dad is a Harley guy, but I ended up in love with sportbikes instead. #motorcycle

Had a pretty good ride yesterday, aside from a couple of drivers. My Ninja was great at handling curves at speed! (More photos to come later.) #motorcycle

Why is the throttle spring on my Ninja so stiff? My hand hurts from holding it all day. #motorcycle
in reply to Neil E. Hodges

If you're spending a lot of time at the same speed, a throttle lock makes a big difference for comfort.
in reply to Neil E. Hodges

A throttle lock might still be helpful.

It should be strong enough to resist the throttle spring, so that you can lock the throttle open and have it stay in-place. Yet, it should be light enough that you can still adjust the throttle without disengaging the throttle lock. This way your hand doesn't have to resist the throttle spring all day.

Otherwise maybe there's a way to lighten the spring?
in reply to Neil E. Hodges

Throttle lock, FTW. At least for open roads -- not necessarily wise to use one on busy streets!

I'd love to do some traveling, but I need a bigger motorcycle first. I don't think that Grom will cut it. 😂
in reply to Dave Heinemann 🇦🇺

You'd be surprised. There are folks who do long-distance touring on mopeds (distinct from scooters). (Photo source)
in reply to Neil E. Hodges

It's definitely doable, but I think I need something a bit more practical to preserve my sanity.

Either that, or I need to do a better job of finding good back roads. 🤔 Australian highways have low speed limits and few people speed, but the Grom still ends up holding up traffic if people can't safely overtake.
in reply to Neil E. Hodges

I’m planning cross Canada from Ottawa to Tuktoyaktuk in the Summer on my Zero DSR/X. Will be Spotwalla-ing if you want to join in on the odd day ;-) biggest problem is charging up there, but I got my solar panels ready and tested… electric #motorcycle touring is different (sort of slower) but a very fine way to see places.

in reply to Neil E. Hodges

It's hard to argue with his numbers, but I think the market is beginning to change. I'm kinda interested in the Ryvid Anthem.

If I didn't already have my Bonneville, I would definitely go for a CB1100. #motorcycle (Source)

in reply to Neil E. Hodges

It for sure is. Double bonus, if you open up the exhaust a touch it sounds like a Porsche, not a Sopwith Camel.

Probably opened more than a touch with this 6-6, but what a nice sound.

Finally convinced @clover to ride with me after not having done so in what feels like years. I did a reprisal of a recent ride, albeit with a couple of added detours and without a stop in Coupeville or at Deception Pass. The weather was touch-and-go in places, but I feel like we had a good time. (And I'm sure the heated jacket helped her!) Looks like you had a great time. I have too started going out my dear, we are still learning. Riding with passenger feels different.
Take care, have fun!

in reply to Neil E. Hodges

they're not for every rider, but I love mine. I have owned other asian bikes when I was young and would be happy on anything I found that fit me. Still prefer Harley fit and finish and torquey low rumble. Nothing like them!

My original plan for this ride was to have @clover along for it, but she wasn't feeling well and wanted to rest at home instead. I didn't feel like doing anything big since I hadn't made a backup plan, so I did a basic ride around south Puget Sound instead. The allure of Eastern Washington became too much, so I headed over there via Snoqualmie Pass (the least likely route for snow). Rather than sticking to the Interstate, I also checked out the old highway (US 10) east of Cle Elum, which was exactly the kind of riding I look for. Only when I hit Moses Lake did I turn back, after exploring the mid-century downtown. My #Triumph was plenty powerful enough to handle the nearly 100 MPH traffic speeds on I-90 in Eastern Washington, but the wind buffeting made me miss my Ninja.

Seems strange to me how #Honda has both the CBR600RR and the CBR650R. #motorcycle
in reply to Neil E. Hodges

IMHO, the more "R" in the name, the more expensive insurance. So I guess the more it is powerfull.
In the same brand + model, of course.
A CBR6000RR cannot fight against a GSXR1000.

Desmodromic valves seem like marketing hype without much merit in the modern day. #motorcycle #ducati
