I remember those! However I ended up with a V45 Sabre (1983) as my first street bike, and now I've got a V45 Magna (1984).

Nice. I was saw a guy riding two-up with a woman on the back on a Sabre while out riding in the boonies. The square headlight and other styling cues looked very strange to me at the time.

The Magna still looks like a cruiser, but the Sabre doesn't really have a modern equivalent. I was taken in by the more electronic dash at the time, complete with an LCD digit for the gear indicator.
