Went on my first # ride since recovering from # and my lung capacity still hasn't returned. Sustained hill climbs left me feeling like throwing up (legs were fine)! :( #
in reply to Neil E. Hodges

Sorry to hear that! I felt the same. After I thought I recovered, even 5-10 mile rides felt miserable. It turned out my CoVID raged back for another week and that this is common in many people.

Let your body fully recover is the best chance against long COVID

People are panicking about the # heatwave, but I haven't had much issue with exercising outdoors in heat worse than this around here. Today's afternoon # ride was quite pleasant. # #

That said, I'm reasonably fit and young, so I don't have to be as careful. Definitely applying sunscreen, though!

Been playing around with RAW photo editing in #Darktable for the past week. I have a lot of it down, but I could really use a tool for checking the tint of grey surfaces. (1, 2, 3, 4) #photography #photog #photo #photos

The photos here are from my usual route through Woodland Park by #bicycle , which I discovered by old-fashioned wayfinding. #cycling #seabikes

About "grey" But who makes a second shot with a colorcheck plate? I am not - so to speak.
Thats useful when use the pipette tool for white balance.
in reply to dieter_wilhelm

Having something familiar in the shot that you know should look a certain way certainly does help!

Did an "Idaho stop" at a small neighborhood four-way stop, a middle-aged man on an electric scooter who showed up after me and to my left sarcastically shouted "Nice stop!" He then did his own "Idaho stop" so I shouted "You too!" back to him.

"Idaho stops" or "rolling stops" have been legal for cyclists in Washington since October 2021. # # #

#Seattle Parks and Recreation seems to be doing something to Woodland Park lately. I saw the shelters torn down and rebuilt. #cycling #bicycle #seabikes (1)

Really wish they would've used aluminum rims on the rim brake bike. "Naked" carbon fiber rims are known to be bad braking surfaces.

Rim Brakes Vs Disc Brakes: Which Really Are Better?

in reply to Neil E. Hodges

My bike has rim brakes. When I had a forced wheel upgrade, I rulled out carbon rims because a dirty break pad could destroy an expensive carbon rim in no time at all.

I told the mechanic, I will save the carbon rims for when I get a disk brake bike.

Finally got the bike fit perfect on this guy! I'm able to both push down and pull up while spinning at a high cadence, which feels like really being in my "power band" like with an engine. I was even _climbing_ at 14+ MPH with a load! #cycling #bicycle #seabikes (1, 2, 3)

Went on an enjoyable yet rigorous #bicycle ride this morning, following a loop I always enjoy. Despite snacking on an energy bar in Lake Forest Park, I ended up bonking while riding through Lake City, so I had to stop at the Metropolitan Market in Laurelhurst. Since the energy bar didn't help, I thought to try a sugary sports drink for a quick boost, and it certainly did the trick! I guess that's why they contain so much sugar, since a low calorie drink wouldn't be so helpful when running low on energy. #cycling (Album)

While out, I noticed several booths for #BikeEverywhereDay scattered about, which was pretty cool. What was less cool was that the Burke–Gilman Trail was being blocked off in the University District, and I'm still not sure why. #seabikes #Seattle

Checked out the partially gravel #bicycle route along the shore of Union Bay yesterday. The relative quiet and scenery were quite nice! #cycling #seabikes (Album)

While riding back home through Fremont, I saw that the #Seattle Fire Department was fighting a fire in an old house a little up the hill, which explained the smell of smoke everywhere. I asked my local bike shop about it and they said that it was a training exercise paired with a controlled demolition.

@clover let me have her old Garmin Fenix 5 since she hadn't used it in quite some time. Been wearing it on my #bicycle rides and when sleeping to keep track of various biometrics. #cycling #fitness

Just got finished deep cleaning my chain and sprockets. Very satisfying! (Original) #cycling #bicycle

The Growtac Equal #bicycle disc brakes look pretty cool. Unlike most mechanical disc brakes, they use a cam system (see design paper and video) rather than a screw/ramp system to move the pads. #cycling

Glad to finally be back on this bike! Since my 333fab is all set up, I wanted to use the same technique to finally get this bike perfect. Raising the saddle was a good starting point, but there are still a couple small tweaks left to make. #cycling #bicycle #seabikes (1, 2, 3)

I've kind of given up on getting groceries by # in # when hundreds of dollars of my stuff was stolen off my bike. # #

Went on a nice little spin around Capitol Hill this morning, before potential bad weather rolls in. It was really nice to get a little more hill climbing than usual in! #cycling #bicycle #seabikes #Seattle (Album)

Also, the new deck on the Montlake Bridge looks very nice.

They certainly are easy to maintain, replace pads and work on, but they can't touch disk brakes in the rain.
in reply to Neil E. Hodges

Yup. Have an eBike and Magura disc brakes (oil filled). With speeds over 25km/h (over 25km/h muscle power!) one needs something with grip.

But in rain disc brakes works good. Wet discs makes some sound then too...

Some lady almost did a left turn into me on Dexter Ave at Valley St. No stop signs for either of us. She was looking right at me and she didn't even stop. She only didn't T-bone my left side because I swerved as she entered my path of travel. The only traffic control device for either of us was a yellow flasher, as she was oncoming traffic prior to turning.

While out riding last week, I discovered a new route from Stone Way N to Fremont Avenue N via Woodland Park. Since the road is closed in the park, it's a very quiet and scenic option, with lots of tree cover. #cycling #bicycle #seabikes #park #Seattle (Album with more photos)

My paranoia and anxiety worsen as I experience more life.

For example, I used to love #bicycle touring on the open highway, but now I'm too scared that some driver will run me down, intentionally or otherwise. #cycling (Original)

While #motorcycle riding isn't as safe as driving, at least I can get going fast enough to avoid a lot of the situations a bicycle cannot. Plus, a motorcycle has much more road presence than a bicycle. (Original)
