Yammie Noob Sent Me An Unfixable Turbo Charged Hayabusa — The Bearded Mechanic

@/yammienoob can't seem to keep this bike from exploding. Now it's our turn to fix and blow up the bike. Thanks for the Busa, Mr. Noob!

I love the sound of a thumper, especially a big one. The valve clatter and exhaust sounds combine really nicely. Kind of funny coming from someone who loves the sound of inline fours. :3c #motorcycle

"Let's pack the bike with as much horsepower as possible for marketing reasons, which means we'll also have to include electronic nannies that we can charge more for since most people aren't skilled enough to handle such power. Also, it lets us cheap out on other things since weight isn't as important with all that power." 🤪

Me: "Yeah, uuh, I get how physics work so could I just get like, a HD Electra or a retired KZP? Old cop bikes draw eyeballs, are easy to ride, and are comfortable all day long and I honestly don't care if it's only got like 60 HP and takes around a day and a half to get through third gear... "

My dad is thinking about getting something like a #BMW RnineT/R12 and rigging a #Ural #sidecar to it, complete with the driven wheel. #motorcycle

(We do both have the necessary license to ride a sidecar rig is our state.)

in reply to Neil E. Hodges

You either like sidecars or you don’t.

We ride because we like it. Life is short. Take your joy where you find it

I want an engine that sings, not one that farts. #car #motorcycle

Finally got the chance to take my new CBR650R out for a day-long spin and had a blast! When this bike sings, it's like no other one I've ridden: it has a two-tone whistle of an induction noise, and since it doesn't have too much torque down low, I was able to hear it a whole lot more than the whistle of the Ninja 1000SX that this replaced! Switching to a smaller bike was definitely the right choice for that reason alone, but it was also much easier to get on the side of the tire because of its lighter crankshaft.

The route was one of my favorites: Seattle, Bainbridge Island, Port Townsend, atd Whidbey Island, but this time along the Pioneer Highway to spend as little time on I-5 as possible. There were so many other people out riding both motorcycles and bicycles since this was the best weather we've had in quite some time! One interesting rest stop was at The Rex in between La Conner and Conway, where there were motorcycles parked as far as the eye could see for a fundraiser barbecue for the owner of The Rex.

I feel like the name "Cardinal" (or one including the word) would be perfect for this bike based on the color, the front fairing, and the how it sings when on the boil.
in reply to Neil E. Hodges

At this point, I can safely say that big twin cruisers don't interest me. If it's not easy to get a bike on the side of the side, it's just not for me.

Also, I can fart on my own without needing an engine. :P

I want to rent a V-4 #motorcycle for a day, just so I can experience it once in my life.

Maybe the same for an I-6 truck or car, automatic though since I don't know manual in cars yet.

in reply to Jim

I don't think someone renting out their truck would be too thrilled with that response. 😅
in reply to Neil E. Hodges

You could test it. Manual is more direct and sporty. At least for me. Automatic is ok too. It's more comfortable.

Motorcycle Riders - You're Leaning the Wrong Way

Ever notice that police motorcyclists lean their bodies away from a turn? They're trained to. But why might this uncommon body position be helpful for our motorbikes?

Suzuki DR650 - The Motorcycle that Built a Community

Special thanks to MXrob and the heroes at Drriders.com!

The same bike since '96, they sure do make'm like they used to. The DR650 might look like a tired ol’ pony but with enough wrenching, tastier parts, and a little help from the DR community, ol’ faithful can strangely start to look like the unicorn we’ve all been waiting for.

I want the good weekend weather to finally hit our area so I can get out on the #motorcycle and clear out all of this cabin fever and wanderlust with a day-long ride. >:(

brother, now we're cooking with gas! Standard bike is my standard. 🤣

Parallel twins are good, but I still feel like they're out of place on a #sportbike. #motorcycle

How Harley-Davidson Killed Itself

If Harley Davidson is the Titanic, the pandemic might just be that one big iceberg. Worse still, it had a hole in the hull and sputtering engines before all this even began. Damn. Is HD done for?

I have been on two wheels for 57 years now, my Pop had me on his Harley when I was one year old for the first time. I'll never forget when he called me while I was working for a Harley-Davidson dealership in California, and he asked me: "Son, what's the best bike in the world?" (expecting me to name one of several Harley-Davidson models) I replied with, "BMW R 1150 GSA." In shock, he asked: "Why's that?" I replied, "It's all day comfortable, will run forever, and then some. It will go over or through most obstacles – what more could you want?" he went out and bought a BMW immediately after, and road that bike until the day he died...

I just bought a '23 CBR650R and would like maybe 1-2" more height to the seat for my long legs. Any suggestions on what to do here on a budget?

(I already have put on adjustable rearsets that move the pegs as far down and back as they'll allow. The 1-2" is what I'd like with that adjustment to the rearsets.)

Had some ADV-style tires put on my CRF450RL since I'll be spending a lot of time on pavement just getting to the mountains. Now I just need a windshield and maybe a Cyclops headlight. 👍 #motorcycle #dirtbike #dualsport
in reply to Neil E. Hodges

I also asked them to set the idle since it was way too high previously. That, combined with my adding tension to the throttle cable, really transformed the bike!

A #motorcycle you can't realistically ride is a waste of money. :P
in reply to Neil E. Hodges

Main reason I traded in my Suzuki Bandit 1200. Fantastic to ride but I could never use its full potential because I'd end up hurting myself or others.
in reply to Frank

Same reason why I switched from a Ninja 1000SX to a CBR650R.
in reply to Neil E. Hodges

I probably couldn't ride a Ducati 916/996 or a Britten V1000 very long, but I would absolutely park one of those in my house as art if I had that kind of space or disposable income.

Anyone who has a lot of experience riding off-road would balk at the 500lb+ weight of adventure bikes. #motorcycle

I'm celebrating the return of Spring with a new Honda CBR650R! (Album)

After selling my Ninja 1000SX because I realized that it wasn't the right bike, I did a test ride on this exact bike at The Brothers Powersports in Bremerton on a stormy day a couple weeks back, then later that night I put a deposit on it. I had the shop put some comfort mods on the bike (heated grips, quickshifter, top case rack, frame sliders) over the past week and then took the bus and ferry last Friday to pick it up, which took forever because I had to wait an hour for the ferry! I did have to ride home with a backpack on, which wasn't fun, but I got it safely home and then spent all of Saturday started putting more mods on it (GPS charging mount and adjustable rearsets because my long legs were cramped). It was kind of a bummer missing out on the nice weather Saturday, but with the bike all buttoned up, I'll be able to any upcoming warm weather! Even better is that I bought it out of pocket and don't have to deal with financing!

On the ferry ride home Friday, I ran into the same lady I saw when I headed home from Bremerton after test riding the bike. Her name was Loki and she was headed with her partner Isaac from her home on the Olympic Peninsula to Seattle to teach circus performers.

(I realize my eyes were closed in the photos. Bummer!)

Really glad I went with a faired naked bike instead of a supersport. Still has plenty of performance for the freeway at the top, but still has decent enough torque further down and the ergonomics are far better. 👍 #motorcycle

No matter what people try to do to convince you, a parallel-twin will never give the same experience as an inline-four. 👍 #motorcycle

Based on my experiences #motorcycle riding, I'd say a street bike intended for spirited riding shouldn't weigh more than 500 pounds. 👍

Saw some of the new electric #Kawasaki bikes at the local Japanese #motorcycle dealer. 👀

Been seeing a number of videos talking about how these big, heavy, and powerful ADV bikes aren’t super great at riding off-road despite what the marketing is pushing. Glad I ended up with a 450 dual-sport instead. :3 #motorcycle

These headlight cowls look kind of cool. 👀 #motorcycle
in reply to Neil E. Hodges

oh, hah, they were so shiny I assumed these were new throwback design things!

in reply to Neil E. Hodges

I'm guessing RC45/RVF750 based on the small air intake? As far as I can remember both RC30 and RC45 has double round headlights in their street ready configuration? Is this an endurance rigged racebike?

How far back do you think one would need to go to find a #motorcycle that would survive an EMP?
in reply to Neil E. Hodges

I think there's a multi-dimensional spectrum of how much of which sort of EMP a device can withstand, like anything with wires that could be overloaded from induced current or other effects would be toast, depending on the scale of attack vs over-engineeredness of the copper thickness, shielding, etc https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electromagnetic_pulse#Lightning
in reply to Neil E. Hodges

I would bet anything with points-type ignition would be most safe. Dual purpose thumper from the 70's might be a good choice.

The Grille Trend that Kills 509 People per Year

#motorcycle

Why are newer pickup trucks killing so many pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists? We set aside politics and emotional attachment to look at the data underpinning the issue.

Neil E. Hodges reshared this.

My wife was negging me because I'm selling my Ninja 1000SX to buy a sportier #motorcycle that matches my skills and what I'm looking for. I've only had the Ninja for two years, but I became more experienced (at least partially by riding the bike) rider over that time. My target bike lists for a little less than what I'm selling the Ninja for, too

She was saying that "you shouldn't get something when you're just going to get rid of it." How in the world had I known that when I bought the thing?! I thought it was going to be a bike I'd have for a lot longer when I bought it! People change as they do something a lot and learn new skills, and their preferences change accordingly.

in reply to Neil E. Hodges

we buy textbooks not for the book but for what we learn using it.
I just got a learner bicycle and am selling it again in June because I learned what I wanted.
in reply to Neil E. Hodges

she would rather you try to modify it, disassemble the engine on the dining room table for several months? Trading up seems a lot more convenient.
