You know what? I don't even like them on motogp bikes. Wings don't belong on bikes people... Just go back to the old rules.
Looks like crapp...

A #tachometer isn't really necessary on a #motorcycle once the rider becomes familiar enough with the engine. 🤔
in reply to Neil E. Hodges

I have always found them usefull... It is also hard to tell the diffence between 12,500 rpm and 13,500 rpm.

It is not "good form" to rely on the rev-limiter.

in reply to GP-u-Moto

@gpumoto
Anything that runs two-stroke or has more than one cylinder, a tachometer is definitely useful.

But riding something like a DR650SE big ol single cylinder I don't miss the tach' while thumping along. It's very plain where the (nice) torque plateaus, and single cyl torque is forgiving all the way up the gears. That stated, I still wouldn't mind a tach' when riding one.

When the carriage lost its horse—thus becoming the "horseless carriage" car—the horse became the #motorcycle. 😜

OH YESSS! Doubtlesssss!😜

I 've never ridden that bull, but I bet they buck!

Neil E. Hodges reshared this.

When something can rev to a really high RPM, it means that it can move the vehicle at a given speed in a lower gear, which gives the engine more mechanical advantage and thus a stronger pull than if it was in a higher gear. 🤔 #motorcycle

#Honda should really bring the CB750 Hornet to the US. :3c #motorcycle

After having a TFT dash on the Ninja 1000SX I had for a couple years (long since sold), I don't really care either way about having that feature. 🤷‍♂️ #motorcycle

in reply to Neil E. Hodges

Nothing wrong with that, I still dream about early 90's street leagal TZ250s and that three tone blue and white RGV250.

in reply to Neil E. Hodges

Nice! The CRFs are great bikes. I've been really happy with my CRF300 Rally.

Did you end up selling the Ninja 1000SX then?

in reply to Dave Heinemann 🇦🇺 Neil E. Hodges reshared this.

Nah, I bought my 450 over a year before selling my Ninja.

My Ninja's replacement is a CBR650R. :) (Original)

in reply to Neil E. Hodges

I think so. There are plenty of accident reports showing their use. I like my Helite E Turtle 2. I don’t ride without it. I’ve even been considering their airbag jeans, but would like to read a review on them first.
in reply to Neil E. Hodges

I think so. I want one, but haven't gotten around to buying one yet.

I've got my eye on the Helite Turtle 2, which is mechanical rather than battery-powered. Having to use a tether is inconvenient, but I won't have to keep it charged. It's also easy to replace your own canisters.

The various electronic vests have some really impressive tech though!

If I didn't care about going fast, Honda's XR150L would be right up my alley. :3c #motorcycle

The #Yamaha XSR 900 GP looks so nice. 👀 #motorcycle

Broke a lace in my #motorcycle riding boots during the week and had to tie them up within the criss-cross lacing while I waited for some aramid laces to replace it to arrive. Reminds me of doing the same to a number of #cycling shoes I've had over the years! #bicycle

Got the K&N air filter in even though we couldn't for the life of us get the Corbin saddle off. It took a ton of work, but we managed to get the tank off without also taking off the saddle. 🤪 #motorcycle
in reply to Neil E. Hodges

Took my CBR to the dealer to have it looked at and we both think the cable housing must've compressed or seated just enough to make the latch not release when turning the key. Also, we both think the shop I bought it from didn't spend enough time setting it up due to both this and other issues that I've seen. :/ #motorcycle
in reply to Neil E. Hodges

Turns out the loop that the seat lock hooks into isn't tall enough, the shop had to shim it taller so it would come off easily. It's a wonder I was able to get it to latch in the first place. 🤪 #motorcycle
in reply to Neil E. Hodges

The mechanic who oversaw (did?) the work said he had the same experience on a scooter he had (has?).
in reply to Neil E. Hodges

When I took my CBR650R to the dealer for this, a couple of the salespeople jokingly asked if they could 3-D copy it. :P #motorcycle

Just got a nice message from my dad, who I worked on the air filter swap with. :3

Just wanted to tell you that you had tenacity and will today, which drove the air cleaner change-up. As you know, I was reluctant to proceed. That was mainly due to my lack of knowledge on the hardware, which made me worry about breaking something by proceeding. Just wanted to let you know that your determination made some success out of what I read as a "no go" situation. Well done, young man! I'm proud of you & that facet of you!

They used to call that grit or true grit!

in reply to Neil E. Hodges

When we had the air box off, I got some delight from watching the butterfly valves open when I twisted the throttle. Cable throttle! :P #motorcycle

Had a blast riding over Stevens Pass, Blewett Pass, and Snoqualmie Pass over the weekend! I finally became comfortable with counterleaning allowing me to put my CBR650R to good use on twisty roads, and the Corbin saddle with 2" extra height over the stock seat saved my knees and wrists. This bike is so much fun! (Album (more photos))

My first longer ride on the new bike! While I had a ton of fun, this ride also taught me that the bike really needs a higher seat to make my knees and wrists happy. The pain became unbearable at times. (Album (more photos))

Thankfully, I had ordered a custom taller seat a little while back and it wouldn't be long until it arrived.

Probably Honda's Strangest Motorcycle

The Honda CX500 and later CX650 are some of the oddest motorcycles to ever come from the company. And they worked

#Honda #motorcycle #turbo #CX

in reply to Neil E. Hodges

I had a GL650 when I did dispatch riding. A GL is a CX with a fairing, wide bars and a bigger tank. The fairing and bars got dumped after an accident anyway. Pretty much every dispatch rider in London at the time had either a Honda CX500/650 or Kawasaki Z550. The shaft drive was great, no more chain tensioning/oiling. But the front end wasn't up to the job and combined with the shaft jacking made it an interesting ride at times.

Mate had a turbo - think hippo on acid.

It isn't a real #motorcycle ride until your helmet, visor, and/or bike ends up covered in bug splats. :P

Took my new CBR650R on a spin through the Cascade Foothills to see the new Oso Landslide Memorial. The memorial was cool, but riding at 40 MPH north of Monroe was honestly pretty boring! (Album (more photos))

Kind of wild that the #Yamaha SR400 was on sale from 1978 all the way 'til 2021 in Japan. #motorcycle

in reply to Neil E. Hodges

That is a very nice bike, and yeah, it does have kind of a weird but pleasing, angular aesthetic. I wouldn't have really noticed if you hadn't pointed it out - thanks!
in reply to Neil E. Hodges

I've been waiting 10 years for this era of bikes to replace the popular cafe racer style.

in reply to GP-u-Moto

Are you thinking of the VF750F? The VFR750F had gear driven camshafts, not chain.
in reply to Neil E. Hodges

Yeah, my mistake...
I just saw the F in there and thought crapp.

Apparently my CBR650R makes both more torque and more horsepower than the CB750 of old. :3c

It also makes slightly more horsepower than the new CB750 Hornet twin, but less torque.

#Honda #motorcycle #CBR

in reply to Neil E. Hodges

the CBR650R gets most of it out of the revs, HP is obvious, but Torque is almost same, just at higher revs.

Both a 4 cylinders, the new CB750 Hornet is a paralleltwin.

The motor from the old CB750 is similar to the CBX750, and this motor provided more HP and torque, even with higher revs.

At the point in my #motorcycle riding where new skills and techniques are coming out of nowhere in response to situational need while I'm out riding. 🤪

If I could only have one #motorcycle, it would be one with a displacement of less than 700cc. :3
in reply to GP-u-Moto

You mean the CB1 wasn't 1cc? :P

Honda should really bring the CB400SF and CB1300SF to the US. Both are great bikes from what I've read.

in reply to Neil E. Hodges

Yeah, that is Honda... They will keep you guessing.

I guess if they thought they could sell them they would.
