Kind of wild how the California Superbike #motorcycle track racing course significantly improved my #bicycle handling skills as well. Now I follow this process when starting a turn:
  • Consciously point the wheel the opposite way I’m turning.
  • Lean the bike the appropriate amount.
  • Let the front wheel turn according to the caster effect to stabilize.
Since I learned to ride a bicycle as an adult, nobody taught me that previously. Turning at speed is so much easier now! #cycling

And lately, I've started consciously noticing the feedback from #3, so I can get a better feel for for the bike turns.

I feel like e-bikes are more like a more approachable version of motorscooters for a lot of people, with the benefit of the option to get exercise, as well as often having the ability to get away from car traffic depending on bicycle infrastructure. #cycling #bicycle #motorcycle #scooter

Maybe the DRZ400 would be better for my purposes. #motorcycle

I hadn't originally intended to check out Mount Rainier National Park on this ride, but when the Goat Rocks fire blocked my original route plan, I siezed the opportunity to do so. (see the blog post for details) and we were able to rush back to the ferry terminal and get home not too late. Thanks for keeping a random buffer around and pasting it when I didn't intend to, Vim.

Sat on a ZX-14R out of curiosity while running errands yesterday. Was surprised to see such a modern-looking bike with twin clocks. Pretty comfortable #motorcycle .

Had an awesome time at the California Superbike Class I went to last weekend! While I was one of the bigger weenies on track as far as speed is concerned, I learned a lot of good handling skills for two wheels. The BMW S1000RR was pretty cool, too, aside from the maintenance alert coming up every time the bike was booted up. #motorcycle (Albums (59 photos total), 14 photos attached)

To get there, my dad and I did a road trip with an overnight stop halfway between home and Willows, CA, where this session was taking place.

The West Seattle Bridge sure makes getting over there much easier! (Album) #motorcycle

Went on a trip to Aberdeen with @clover last month. The ride to the city was enjoyable, but when we got to our motel, the rear tire was flat due to a shiny new nail in it. For the duration of our stay, we hoofed it, which really hammered home the poor state of the city. It was pretty cool to see the tiny park dedicated to Kurt Cobain, though.

Thankfully, it was all resolved by midday the followinng day (see the blog post for details) and we were able to rush back to the ferry terminal and get home not too late. (Blog Post, Album (102 photos), 20 photos attached) #photography #photog #photos #photo #motorcycle

I thought I'd checked out most of the interesting roads in the northern Cascades, but then realized that I hadn't gone to the end of the Mount Baker Highway! The road featured both breathtaking sights and hair-raising hairpins, making it popular with both motorcyclists and bicyclists alike. I realize the color temperature on many of these is way too high, but I was still figuring that out when I was editing these a few weeks back. Please bear with me.

If motorcycles are two-wheeled sports cars, then motorscooters are two-wheeled "normal" cars. # #

A goal I've had for a long time was checking out the back (gravel) part of the Mountain Loop Highway. So many times I've gone up that way only for the gate to that section to be closed due to deep snow. After asking around, I found out that the highway was open, so I had to check it out! Despite having a street bike, I had tons of fun on the potholed and washboard gravel! (Blog Post, Album (102 photos), 11 photos attached) #motorcycle #photography #photog #photos #photo #mywork

Please be kind with these photos. This was my first album where I did raw photo editing of all of the photos, and I still had a lot to learn when it came to many things including tint and color temperature.

The road up Mount Baker sure was twisty! #motorcycle

Motorcycle Riders – Your Throttle Grip is Wrong

Thankfully, I already ride with my elbows down instead of out. Just need to adjust my grip. #

After watching the FortNine video about the three-wheeled ATCs a while back, I was really curious about their handling characteristics, so I was delighted to see this new video pop up in my recommendations. #

We Bought the World’s Most Dangerous Vehicle

While the goal of this ride was Grand Coulee Dam, the trip really ended up being much more about the journey through some of the most striking scenery in Eastern Washington. (Blog Post, Album (265 photos), 15 photos attached) #motorcycle #photography #photog #photos #photo

There are dirt bike classes in Eastern Washington that provide bikes. #

I still think it's funny how you point your tire out of the turn to lean more when at speed, which results in a tighter turn. #

I had a motorcycle for years before I learned to drive a car. When I make a tight turn in a car, I still lean over. My wife thinks it's hilarious. -_-

Chinook Pass finally opened shortly before my previous ride to Hurricane Ridge, so I had to check it out. Once ascending out of the forests, I got serious "national park" vibes like when I visited Yellowstone many years ago. The only other pass highway that compared in my memory was the North Cascades Highway! (Blog Post, Album (202 photos), 14 photos attached) #motorcycle #photography #photog #photos #photo

Not only that, I also checked out the Yakima River Canyon, which was another route on my bucket list. There really isn't anything as refreshing as a cool river oasis surrounded by desert hills!

Thanks for all the help with this.

For weeks during the nasty PNW Spring this year, I talked about visiting Hurricane Ridge, and I finally got the chance to do it in June! It really felt like we were ascending to the heavens and landing on an alien world as @clover and I rode up the road that wound its way along the cliffs of the Olympic Mountains. Japanese Bike Manufacturers Are Cutting Models To Comply With Emissions Regulations

It has been revealed that Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, and Kawasaki will discontinue approximately 20 models by the end of this year, representing roughly 10 per cent of the 190 models offered by the four manufacturers.

Nikkei reports that Honda is scrapping approximately 10 of its 80 current models in response to strict emissions standards that will be introduced across Japan in the fall. Among the models going the way of the dodo include the CB400 Super Four, the Benly scooter, and the full-size Gold Wing series.

Suzuki is following suit and set to axe at least five of its 20 models by October, including the GSX250R. Yamaha will also stop selling two models from its series of FJR1300 tourers while Kawasaki abandoned some of its full-sized offerings last year.

Japan’s new emissions standards are modeled after the Euro 5 laws in effect across the European Union and have applied to all new models from the end of 2020 and will impact all existing models in November. Complying with the new regulations will necessitate bike manufacturers installing upgraded catalytic converters or redesigning engines. The costs involved in making some models comply are simply too high to justify for Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, and Kawasaki.

One nice thing about not having kids is that I don't have to worry about dying as much and leaving them without a dad. A lot of # riders get out of the hobby because of that.

There isn't anything quite like climbing to the heavens. (More photos to come later.) #motorcycle

A dual-sport actually does what companies claim ADV bikes can do, kind of like a real SUV versus a crossover. #
