i find it hard to appreciate the value of activitypub protocol where everything is connected to everything else. 🤷‍♂️

Yes, but there seem to be less and less users on diaspora with less and less interactions (also a diaspora user is missing content due to lack of interconnectivity). Probably the majority is moving to Mastodon or friendica.

i don't think so
The little group of diaspora dev. have decided a long time ago to not working to integrate activity pub protocol
they have a lot of work to do with diaspora already.
But if someone want to help them to make a "bridge" , it will be nice.

@Salinger 3 Yes, that's nice that development continues. I was wondering more in general regarding userbase. There is much more buzz on Mastodon (which I don't like personally), but it attracts people. And from a pure practical POV: There are advantages of being on a friendica pod (for example, or on Hubzilla). This is why it seems to me that moving to somewhere else is a logical choice for many users.

What I recently noticed as striking is that there are tons of abandoned profiles which were active for a while. I guess those users are still active but probably somewhere else.

@gunnar : i have opened an account on Mastodon to follow news. I don't write anything. Pixelfeed is nice also.
I am not using Friendica or Hubzilla because i don't understand the UX but it could be interesting to be there, like this it's possible to be connected with the Fediverse and Diaspora.
Do you think there is more active people who are posting on Friendica or Hubzilla. We should see them on Diaspora if we are connected with their instance/pod.

Yes, that's what I meant! If I'm not mistaken, users on a friendica pod can follow Mastodon users/see Mastodon posts (whatever name they have there), but we here only see one, if someone on friendica re-shares.
Actually if there is a friendica bot that automatically re-shares a Mastodon user's posts, I could follow it by putting that friendica bot to the contacts here (so all the Mastodon posts would appear in the stream as re-shares). This is kind of odd. Hubzilla has really cool features, but it's somewhat complex first.
On the other hand I still like it here. It's less noise, simple and there are always interesting posts to read.

For me, if I had to migrate elsewhere it'd be to Kbin, because of its better confidentiality and lack of a (killable) server. I don't know how it links to others OTOH, and would appreciate any advice...

Never tried kbin, but I read it's part of threadiverse like lemmy (using threads). It was pointed out in a post here that if you comment on a Lemmy or kbin post from friendica, it lets you see who up/down voted you.
