Now I just need to set aside some time to install Gentoo. :3 #Gentoo #Linux

Debating my options to escape #systemd . (Currently on Arch Linux.)

What do you all think? :blobfoxthink: #Linux #BSD

in reply to Neil E. Hodges

Installing Gentoo in a chroot is actually a really good way to hone your skill set. You should also look into a Gentoo container with either Docker or Podman (but knowing you don't like systemd bloat, I am certain you would prefer Podman)
in reply to baconicsynergy

I honed my skills with Gentoo plenty back in the 2000s, so don't worry about that. :P
in reply to Neil E. Hodges

Haha excellent! I should really do a new install myself as I have forgotten so much about Gentoo

Just another chapter of this regime's incompetence, just like the airplane crashes in early 2025. Really sucks how people have been dying because of it since the very beginning. :(

“The pilot and co-pilot of an Air Canada Express regional jet have been killed after it collided with a fire truck while landing…

collision also caused serious injuries, with nine people in the hospital. It happened as a firefighting vehicle was responding to a separate incident…

In the moments before the crash, an air traffic controller could be heard on a radio transmission giving clearance to a vehicle to cross part of the runway, then trying to stop it.”

From here:

The Japanese title, "Poco a Pokémon", may originate from a combination of poco a poco (Spanish or Italian for "little by little") and Pokémon. Similarly, the name "Pokopia" used in other languages may originate from a combination of Pokémon, copy (in reference to Ditto) and utopia.

If that's true, couldn't they have called it Poko a Pokémon in Spanish? It's called Pokémon Pokopia in that localization like the rest. 🤔

We should go back to giving devices names based on "dyne". :3

no weirder than the idea that Jesus was not a person, but a sacred (magic) mushroom. LOL

Unionized staff at ProPublica vote to strike | The NewsGuild - TNG-CWA

Unionized staff at one of the nation’s largest nonprofit newsrooms, ProPublica, have voted overwhelmingly to authorize a strike. Workers have been bargaining for more than two years for a first contract.

The ProPublica Guild, a bargaining unit of The NewsGuild of New York, represents about 150 journalists, videographers, development professionals, copy editors and other workers. The Guild’s strike authorization vote concluded Thursday evening with 92% voting yes and 99% of the union participating in the vote.

Management at ProPublica – which touts its mission to produce investigative journalism with “moral force” – has consistently refused to agree to many provisions that are standard in contracts across the industry.

During more than two years of active bargaining, ProPublica management has:

  • Refused to agree to standard job security protections and seniority provisions in layoffs.
  • Rejected any restrictions on replacing jobs with AI.
  • Denied workers wage increases that keep up with the rising cost of living.

To tilt Hungarian election, Russians proposed staging assassination attempt
In the run-up to Hungary’s pivotal election in April, a unit of Russia’s foreign intelligence service last month began sounding the alarm over plummeting public support for Prime Minister Viktor Orban, whose friendly ties to Moscow have long given the Kremlin a strategic foothold inside NATO and the European Union.

Officers from the intelligence service, or SVR, suggested that drastic action might be necessary — a strategy they called “the Gamechanger.” In an internal report for the SVR obtained and authenticated by a European intelligence service and reviewed by The Washington Post, the operatives proposed a way to “fundamentally alter the entire paradigm of the election campaign” — “the staging of an assassination attempt on Viktor Orban.”

This sounds oddly familiar.

The Russian measures to support Orban have included a Kremlin-backed social media campaign to amplify messaging that Orban is the only candidate who can protect Hungary’s sovereignty, according to European security officials familiar with the activities who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss intelligence findings.

Given the general competence of Russian troops... maybe they should give it a try with this fake assassination attempt?
