Theo Chocolate to close Seattle factory, announces job cuts, merger

Seattle-grown Theo Chocolate will merge with a large, national candy company, close its Fremont-neighborhood chocolate factory and lay off most of its employees.

Theo announced the merger with the American Licorice Co. late Wednesday, and said it has separately decided to restructure operations, which will include ceasing chocolate production in the Emerald City and the staff cuts.

#Seattle area folks should keep an eye out for this #motorcycle rider. He's a pretty chill guy. (It's not me, but I have chatted with him before.)

Anyone know what's going on with the constant sirens in northwest #Seattle this evening?

I tried riding right after the big #Seattle #snow event at the beginning of December, but I didn't have suitable tires for what I ran into! (Original) #wasnow #cycling #bicycle #seabikes #photography #photog #photo

Ran into Steven Frey while out on my usual #bicycle ride yesterday, whose custom #Trek conversions have been featured in Bicycle Quarterly articles like this one. He was with his wife and son, both of whom have their own Freks. (Oddly enough, he wasn't riding a Frek himself, but his ride was a very nice build nonetheless.) I had no idea he lived in #Seattle!

His general Trek to Frek conversion process involves tweaking things here and there with the frame, which may include adding centerpull brake studs, as well as custom components. The article linked above is an example of his work.

Dec. 23, 7 a.m.: All Metro service suspended due to ice; Next update at 10 a.m.

As first shared on Dec. 23 at 5 a.m., King County Metro’s buses are unable to leave bus bases due to deteriorating and unsafe road conditions. We regret the impact on our riders. We continue to reassess and will provide the next update at 10 a.m. We remain optimistic that we will be able to provide service later today.

Since Metro communicated yesterday its move to the Emergency Snow Network (ESN), fast-accumulating ice and sub-freezing temperatures across King County have worsened and make it impossible for any buses to travel at the present time. We will add bus service as soon as it is safe for customers and employees.

Oh well Here we have rain and 10°C (Germany, Lake Constance)...

I read “bus bases” too fast and wondered “If bus basses are based basses 🐟 , do bussed pass basses pass passes to first base bass 🎻 players?” (You’re welcome!)

in reply to Neil E. Hodges

Mike McGinn was right on this and I voted for him because of it. Everyone else, including Gregoire, lied through their teeth about "no cost overruns."

We should have just stuck with a two lane waterfront road (at most!)

Still do everything I can to avoid that sunk cost masquerading as a tunnel.

Happy Light for the win! And vitamin D, however you can come by it. https://sleepyheadcentral.com/light-therapy-hacks-to-reset-your-circadian-rhythms-for-seasonal-affective-disorder-circadian-rhythms-sleep-disorders/

Remember to check UVB versus UVA on devices as some things are unfortunately vague about it.

UVB is the good stuff, but it's blocked by almost all glass. Light might provide UVB but if it's encased in glass of some sort, you'll get zero of the good stuff and all of the dangerous UVA.

Same for your home windows: That sunlight feeling is all just placebo (which is valid! Just not the vitamins you want long-term).

Best of luck in the dark cycle.

Darktable can denoise, but it has its limits. If the denoise filter is applied too strongly, textured stuff looks too smooth.

I very much prefer roads that don't have such kind of "bicycle infrastructure", for various reasons. See for example the roads I used on my bike ride yesterday.
