I didn't know Morning Musume like...still existed, until I let Youtube autoplay from some of their very old stuff and it started playing their brand new stuff.

I kinda dig it.

I guess these days they rename themselves by year (so we're on Morning Musume '23) which I guess...makes sense with the weird turnover rate of Japanese idol groups.

For reference this is probably the newest Morning Musume song I actually know https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6A7j6eryPV4

Back in the P2P file sharing era, I was a kid and would just type "japanese music" in and download whatever came up.

So basically a lot of Morning Musume, Ayumi Hamasaki, Gackt...whatever was big enough in that era to pop up.

And the real miracle was that after a while you could download...music videos!!!! Holy shit!!!

At some point as a kid I went to a Japanese grocery store out of town, and by the checkout they had a few VCDs and I lost it because they had a Morning Musume concert VCD.

I wonder if I still have it in storage somewhere...

This was definitely one of the first music videos I ever saw On The Internet

Not too long after, I got to where I could download fansubbed videos from Japanese TV also. I watched a lot of these Ayaka's Surprise English Lesson videos. It wasn't nearly as demanding as downloading, say, full seasons of TV shows, which I wasn't quite at the point of being able to do in terms of storage space or internet speeds.
