#gardening
I'm spending the morning picking out which tomato varieties to try this year.

I'm not a gardener, but I can't not lobby for my favorite: green zebra!

@Irisfreundin
I believe there are. I should look into that more.

I need to find a local gardening buddy. For things like tomatoes and peppers, I always have more seeds than I need.

I start lots of seedlings and give them away at work, but even with that I don't plant nearly all of my seeds.

in reply to MCDuncanLab

@MCDuncanLab I have a "tomato buddy" with whom who I trade seedlings, but I also end up with more plants than I have space.

I once grew Brandywine because of the pretty pink color but found them so amazingly tasteless that I'll never grow them again. Complete waste of space and water.
in reply to Olga Lovick (she/her)

@transitionalaspect Good to know. I've grown a hybrid of Brandywine, called "Genuwine", which was okay, but not extraordinary.
in reply to Michael Emerman

you can always go the random route by just planting some seed of store bought tomatoes. Since they are usually hybrids, you don't know what you will get. I did that the last couple of years and never got disappointed. This winter, I've even got one plant in my office and harvest a tasty tomato about twice a week.

I have not tried them all, but Kellogg's Breakfast is one of my favorite slicers. Lower acidity than most tomatoes. YMMV, of course - my wife doesn't care for it so much...

I also enjoyed the Costoluto Fiorentino and Genovese when I grew them. Good luck!

in reply to webonaire

@cratedigger I grew Costoluto Fiorentino last year and they were very good. Will grow them again this year. I tried Kellogg's years ago and didn't get much (any) ripe ones, but that was before our hotter summers, so I should try again.

I’d recognize that catalog anywhere… I like Cosmonaut Volkov quite a bit and it grows well here.
in reply to Thomas Sibley

@trs I used to plant those, but then had a few years where they didn't do so well. I should try them again now that I've improved the raised beds.
