How I stay sane on the internet
Sometimes I do open up filtered posts, but this way I can manually choose to do this based on how emotionally stable I feel at the time

in reply to bazkie, bonkwave superstar • • •Oh, and I often hear people saying it's bad to live in a bubble.
I disagree! Here's the thing; back in the day, when internet didn't exist, we all lived in bubbles. It worked just fine.
Of course, not all bubbles are born similarly. If your bubble blocks out logic or facts to protect an opinion based on fantasy, yeah, that's probably not a healthy idea.
But if your bubble blocks out stuff you already know about (people being murdered etc.), or nasty people that would add nothing useful to your life, that's just fine.
Social media, when not properly 'managed' by the user, will feed you an overload of information quickies, many of them unhealthy. Also, it removes you as the arbiter of what you want to focus on - especially on algorithmic platforms that want to steer your feelings and behavior.
I find it troubling that most people (I think) these days are on algorithmic social media, often without keeping their 'social media milieu' in proper shape. We should teach that stuff from elementary schools on.. but of course.. that's not gonna happen 😅

You just didn't hear from the people who didn't make it.

I fully agree with you about filtering. I know more than enough of what’s going on around many depressing topics which I’m powerless to change…

yeah if you can't change a thing anyway, you might as well not think about it too much.. and we hear about important things anyway because you can't really fully evade them!

in reply to stgiga (they/them) :polygender_verify: • • •@stgiga exactly! 🤗
I think it's that psychological thing where people rate bad stuff more important than good stuff (I mean biologically speaking I understand that a nearby tiger should draw more attention than a cutesy hedgehog), so they tend to boost/toot more bad stuff than good stuff?
And part of it is venting, which I'm guilty of as well..
But yeah I wish "trigger"/doom stuff was always CW'd properly.. not everyone does this too well unfortunately!

Btw I am a nerd too, but I know them as regexps :)
