How I stay sane on the internet :blobcatspace:

Sometimes I do open up filtered posts, but this way I can manually choose to do this based on how emotionally stable I feel at the time :ablobcatpopcorn:

in reply to KnuppelBeer 🐻

:ablobwave:

En inderdaad Mastodon is de bom! 👍🏼

in reply to KnuppelBeer 🐻

in reply to KnuppelBeer 🐻

in reply to bazkie, bonkwave superstar

och AI is oké

in reply to KnuppelBeer 🐻

Oh, and I often hear people saying it's bad to live in a bubble.

I disagree! Here's the thing; back in the day, when internet didn't exist, we all lived in bubbles. It worked just fine.

Of course, not all bubbles are born similarly. If your bubble blocks out logic or facts to protect an opinion based on fantasy, yeah, that's probably not a healthy idea.

But if your bubble blocks out stuff you already know about (people being murdered etc.), or nasty people that would add nothing useful to your life, that's just fine.

Social media, when not properly 'managed' by the user, will feed you an overload of information quickies, many of them unhealthy. Also, it removes you as the arbiter of what you want to focus on - especially on algorithmic platforms that want to steer your feelings and behavior.

I find it troubling that most people (I think) these days are on algorithmic social media, often without keeping their 'social media milieu' in proper shape. We should teach that stuff from elementary schools on.. but of course.. that's not gonna happen 😅

I don't think it worked fine.

You just didn't hear from the people who didn't make it.

in reply to bazkie, bonkwave superstar

You use way more polite words than my filter names 😊.

I fully agree with you about filtering. I know more than enough of what’s going on around many depressing topics which I’m powerless to change…

in reply to Samantha Rose :gi:

@samantha haha I'm very puritan 👼🏼

yeah if you can't change a thing anyway, you might as well not think about it too much.. and we hear about important things anyway because you can't really fully evade them!

in reply to bazkie, bonkwave superstar

I don't come to Fedi for bad news, I use the Internet to escape my real life, which for manymanymany reasons is sad.
in reply to stgiga (they/them) :polygender_verify:

@stgiga exactly! 🤗

I think it's that psychological thing where people rate bad stuff more important than good stuff (I mean biologically speaking I understand that a nearby tiger should draw more attention than a cutesy hedgehog), so they tend to boost/toot more bad stuff than good stuff?

And part of it is venting, which I'm guilty of as well..

But yeah I wish "trigger"/doom stuff was always CW'd properly.. not everyone does this too well unfortunately!

@Uilebheist yep group 1 is definitely a thing. they are very obvious.. with that type of person it's usually all projection!

@chessert yeah the supply of idiots is unending 😅
in reply to bazkie, bonkwave superstar

Regular expression. Sorry. With so many computer types on here I sometimes forget. a*string is an R.E. filters based on a string match rather than strict match.
in reply to Dianora (Diane Bruce)

@Dianora ahh right! yes, I missed that too. For example, I block "trump" as a "whole word" but I would also like to filter it in links, where it may be written like url/trump-says-blahblah.html, but right now this kind of thing is hard to do.

Btw I am a nerd too, but I know them as regexps :)

in reply to bazkie, bonkwave superstar

I know regexps ;) I should have used that instead. No problemo we are furiously agreeing!

It's not a client. It's Friendica, an entirely different Fediverse server that can talk to more than just ActivityPub servers. :)
in reply to Neil E. Hodges

@tk interesting, how does that work, can you use it to communicate on mastodon too, or do I misunderstand what it is?
in reply to bazkie, bonkwave superstar

You can communicate with users hosted on other Mastodon servers, but the Friendica frontend can only directly talk to the Friendica server that it's hosted on.
in reply to Neil E. Hodges

@tk my head is spinning haha 😅 maybe I should just give it a try sometime!

bazkie, bonkwave superstar
@tk nice.. guess I should give it a look :)

@fifo which one are you on? I don't know any better than that this is the default one 🙂
Unknown parent

bazkie, bonkwave superstar
@fifo thanks for the sneak preview 😊 I like the darker color!

bazkie, bonkwave superstar
@fifo hehe thanks that's nice but I'll just wait a few days until my instance upgrades 😊
