Seems to be a problem with Postgres, but I'm not seeing any tell-tale logs.

I think ultimately how I'm keeping my instance under control is using fast ssds, but also I'm using pgtune with the db type set to "Online transaction processing system"

Noticed that "web application" actually made things slower

I'm using SSD storage, too. I guess I'll see if another pgtune round we'll help if I can get the database to respond.
in reply to Norm Mikoto

The database is definitely I/O pegged. Not sure what to do here.

It looks like Linode will have the option to move existing block storage to NVMe SSDs starting in the latter half of April. Time to sit and wait, I guess.
in reply to Neil E. Hodges

yeah I remember having similar IO issues with hetzner's block storage when I tried it.

I ultimately decided to just move things to my home server and use local NVMe SSDs I have laying around. Obviously not a solution for everyone but in my case it does work

in reply to Norm Mikoto

Pretty much the only reason why I can't do that is because the power here goes out too often.

Gotta love America. 🙃
