Now that #YouTube doesn't allow ad blockers anymore, watching it for any extended period of time gives me the same icky feeling that watching television does because of how obnoxious the ads are. YouTube is even worse because the ads often come at seemingly random times rather than engineered breaks like with television programming.

Rather than prompting me to pay for the premium subscription to get rid of ads, this is making me realize that I don't really need to be watching YouTube as much as I have been. It's pushing me away from the service.

These days, I'd rather read stuff, either online or offline. Videos don't keep my interest anymore.

I continue to use an ad-blocker and I just get a blank black sound-free period before the "skip ad(s)" button appears. Sometimes captions appear.

It's a bit annoying, but tolerable for the few youtube videos I sometimes watch.
