The Mayor of Emeryville joined us for our #BikeBus to school on Wednesday! He rode with his dog Reyna in front.

Q7. Have you ridden with an animal friend on your own cycle near one during a ride? How were they "attached" to the cycle? Pictures welcome!

A7.
I ride with my dog frequently! She's a 13 pound Pomeranian mix and rides in a backpack pet carrier, the K9 Sport Sack. It allows her to put her front paws and chin on my shoulder and watch where we're going. Can't find a pic, sorry! (She's super cute!)

I used to take my bigger dog running while I biked. I would hold his leash in my hand so I could let go quickly if something got between us or if it got tangled.

A7: I use a modified child bike trailer. Light weight and my dogs enjoy the view. #bikenite

I don't think I have a picture but one time I tried to put my cat in the front basket of my GSD. Said cat immediately jumped out and ran back into the house. 😂

My partner has a Pakster box bike and they take the cats to their vet appointments in that though! They seem to be fine with that short trip but often they are in a carrier just to be sure they don't jump out and hurt themselves. #BikeNite

Hey #BikeNite crew, is it hard or weird to steer on a cargo #bike like the one pictured? I feel like the wheel being so far in front of the handlebars would take significant getting used to.

@ingalls it took me a couple minutes the times I’ve tried one. Definitely helped me to look forward instead of down. It was an adjustment.

#BikeNite A7:
I have a love/hate relation to dogs. I recently supported a new dog park in my park board role, and prefer living in a neighborhood where folks have kids and dogs. But dogs that won't hurt anyone else have bitten me. In the last year I've been knocked off my bike by a off leash dog, have been painfully bitten by an off leash dog, and growled at, barked at and chased hard by off leash dogs on bike rides, so I'd rather skip the "pet" part on rides.
