Oh wait, I found how to fix it:

  • When in a save, you can bump the maximum vehicles per company under the Limitations section in the settings dialog.
  • For later games, you can change the limit settings under [vehicle] in openttd.cfg.

Soldering this aluminum pipe isn't working (it won't stick before the solder just flows out onto the floor), so I guess I'm learning how to braze with my butane torch tomorrow. :P
in reply to Neil E. Hodges

Going to have to order online. None of the welding shops or hardware stores around me carry flux for aluminum. :(

I should be able to get by with soldering alone for this project, though. :)

in reply to Neil E. Hodges

Ended up going with Sn95Cu4.8Ag0.2 solder. Wish me luck. :P

(I also added some brass and some aluminum coupling nuts in case the steel ones refuse to be wet by the solder.)

in reply to Neil E. Hodges

I was going to say, standard lead/tin isn't a great choice, high zinc is definitely better. There are tin/lead based solders that stick to aluminum but they aren't in the 50/50 range, and the best solders have some more exotic stuff in them.

Found something interesting out the hard way. #Python
from string import Formatter

a = 0
b = 1

print(f"{a or b}")  # Works
print("{a or b}".format(a=0, b=1))  # Does not work
print(Formatter().format("{a or b}", a=0, b=1))  # Does not work
in reply to Neil E. Hodges

Makes sense, but I definitely see the potential for confusion there!

Why Are So Many Pedestrians Killed by Cars in the US?

https://www.construction-physics.com/p/why-are-so-many-pedestrians-killed

Pedestrian accidents getting more deadly seems like fairly strong evidence for the theory that the rise in large SUVs is behind the uptick in pedestrian deaths: it’s not that more pedestrians are getting hit by vehicles, it’s that the ones that are getting hit are more likely to die.

Instead of "demanding" Microsoft continue to update software for old machines, how about we encourage 1 billion Windows 10 users who can't upgrade to Windows 11, to upgrade to GNU/LInux instead?

Part of me still wonders if the housing industry isn't also behind the push for consumerism, since "you need a big house for all your junk." :/

"Whitehorse Trail"

The Whitehorse Trail was very overgrown along most of its length, with long stretches where no trail surface was visible at all through the grass. It was pretty bumpy with loose gravel in places, so a cyclocross bike would do much better than a road bike.

"Pritzker, Newsom threaten to quit National Governors Association over Trump troop deployments"

Bipartisan US governors' group faces division over Trump's deployment of troops to states

Newsom and Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker, both potential 2028 presidential candidates, contend Donald Trump's troop deployments should be a matter of concern for all governors. But some Republican governors have supported Trump's actions, and the national governors' group has not taken a position.

“I’m not sure the policy issue of whether the Constitution allows for federal involvement in the state and the National Guard is something that the NGA would want to tackle,” said Republican Missouri Gov. Mike Kehoe, who co-chairs the organization’s task force on emergency management and public health.

The Democratic governors of Kansas, Michigan and Minnesota already have left the NGA this year. Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly said she didn’t think the roughly $100,000 annual dues paid by the state were a good investment and encouraged the group to push back against canceled federal grants.

Trump administration threatens no back pay for federal workers in shutdown

Donald Trump signed into law after the longest government shutdown in 2019 legislation to ensure federal workers receive back pay during any federal funding lapse. But in the new memo, his Office of Management and Budget says back pay must be provided by Congress, if it chooses to do so, as part of any bill to fund the government.

The move by the Republican administration was widely seen as a strong-arm tactic — a way to pressure lawmakers to reopen the government, now in the seventh day of a shutdown.

“There are some people that don’t deserve to be taken care of, and we’ll take care of them in a different way,” Trump said during an event at the White House.

He said back pay “depends on who we're talking about.” Asked a second time about backpay for furloughed federal workers given that the requirement is spelled out in law, Trump said: “I follow the law, and what the law says is correct.”

Company bids less than a penny per ton in biggest US coal sale in over a decade

A Navajo tribe-owned company bid $186,000 to lease 167 million tons of coal on federal lands in southeastern Montana on Monday in the biggest U.S. coal sale in more than a decade.

The offer from the Navajo Transitional Energy Co. (NTEC) equates to one-tenth of a penny per ton, underscoring coal’s diminished value even as President Donald Trump pushes to mine and burn more of the heavily polluting fuel.

Federal officials did not immediately say if they would accept the offer. It was the only bid received. Two NTEC representatives attended the sale at the Bureau of Land Management local office in Billings, Montana. They declined to comment after it was over.

At the last successful government lease sale in the region, a subsidiary of Peabody Energy paid $793 million, or $1.10 per ton, for 721 million tons of coal in Wyoming.
