When bushfires make their own weather
Bushfires are strongly driven by weather: hot, dry and windy conditions can combine to create the perfect environment for flames to spread across the landscape.
But sometimes the relationship flips: fires can generate their own weather systems, which can then dramatically alter the spread and intensity of the blaze.

One of the most striking examples of this phenomenon is the formation of pyrocumulonimbus clouds — towering storm clouds born from fire.

Saying members from both major parties have unfairly boosted their personal financial fortunes based on information they learn while serving in Congress, the governor added that every member of the state’s 28-member congressional delegation should support the legislation when it comes to a vote in the House later this year.

And he said he will advocate for a state law to require all candidates running for federal office in Florida to check a form about whether they intend to trade individual stocks while serving.

“It’s really odd,” he said while speaking at a press conference held at the U.S. Coast Guard Air Station in Clearwater.

“You’ll have people get elected to Congress having never shown any investment acumen ever in their life, and then all of a sudden they become Warren Buffet on steroids. They’re putting some of the biggest hedge funds in America to shame with these stock trades that have these really suspicious timings. Because, look, if you buy a stock and it goes up 400% in like a month? That’s like a once in a lifetime investment, and yet these guys seem to be doing this quite frequently. And they have access to certain information I believe that is helping to fuel that.”

Why? Because her read of the situation right off the bat was that this wasn't a misunderstanding — it was an attempt to “level the playing field” by embarrassing her on purpose.

Several people likened the move to scam emails that are obviously fake. The point isn’t to convince everyone — it’s to quickly locate the people who will comply, second-guess themselves, and keep engaging. Basically, it's a filter.

What made the clip pop is the dater's refusal to do the emotional labor so many women have been trained to perform. She didn't even ask for an explanation. She just left, got herself fast food, and blocked him immediately. "You showed me who you were,” she says. “You don’t have to show me twice.”

Commenters cheered that energy not just as a clapback (although that too), but as a safety practice: Get out early, don’t escalate, don’t negotiate with someone who’s already demonstrated a taste for control.

When my wife moved in, I learned that she had a lot of anxiety around trying new foods because she was fearful of allergic reactions. I didn't get it at the time, but after all of the food poisoning I've dealt with in recent years, I now have similar anxiety. :(

As US President Donald Trump returned to the White House for the first time this year, he was filmed stepping off Air Force One. And seemingly, having trouble as he did so. In the video, Trump slowly descended the staircase off the plane, pausing halfway through and maintaining a strong grip on the railing the entire time.

Ironically, this is something Trump previously criticised Joe Biden for. “Every day, the guy’s falling down stairs,” Trump told military generals last year, per The Daily Beast. “I’m very careful. You know, when I walk downstairs – like I’m on stairs, like these stairs – I walk very slowly.”

Trump went on: “Just walk nice and easy. You don’t have to set any record.”

The US President’s apparent struggle with the stairs comes just days after he was accused of slurring his words in a press conference about his controversial involvement in Venezuela.
