Video game giant Electronic Arts to be taken private in historic $55B buyout deal

Electronic Arts, maker of video games like Madden NFL, Battlefield and The Sims, is being acquired for $55 billion US, the biggest leveraged buyout attempt in history.

Under the terms of a deal announced on Monday, the private equity firm Silver Lake Partners, Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund PIF and Affinity Partners will pay the company's stockholders $210 per share. Affinity Partners is a private equity firm run by President Donald Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner.

Electronic Arts (EA) would be taken private. The total value of the deal eclipses the $32 billion paid to take Texas utility TXU private in 2007.

If the transaction closes as anticipated, it will end EA's 36-year history as a publicly traded company that began with its shares ending its first day of trading at a split-adjusted 52 cents.

In a 7-4 decision, the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit rejected Trump's argument that the tariffs were permitted under an emergency economic powers act, calling them "invalid as contrary to law".

Did my first battery replacement tonight, including filling the replacement battery with electrolyte. 👍 #motorcycle

After switching to brass legs for my 70cm dipole for strength, I started trimming and filing them down to get something working.

  • At ~132mm measured from the coax, it was resonating well at 424.5 MHz with an impedance of 44.24+j1.987 Ω and an SWR of 1.138.
  • At ~107mm measured from the coax, the impedance at 436.0 MHz was approximately halved with an impedance of 23.41+j7.66 Ω and an SWR of 2.200.

Between the feed point and opposing UHF connector, the coax is about 114mm long, which is very close to two wavelengths.

(%i1) 1.14 / (%c / 436E6 * 0.83);
(%o1) 1.9975262006020027

I'm getting the sneaking suspicion that the coax is doing unwanted impedance transformation, but I'm not sure. What do folks think?

Another thing that makes me think it's the coax is that I was seeing an "extra" resonance when the dipole's self-resonance was at a lower frequency. #AmateurRadio #HamRadio

If you want to read the speeches at the UN General Assembly, try here:
https://gadebate.un.org/en
The UN site is very glossy, more public relations and multimedia than information and text - at least that’s the impression I have.
If anyone knows a better source/link to get the text of the speeches please share.

Making the Implicit Explicit

Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth gave a brief presentation in the oval office recently where he spoke of renaming the Department of Defence. Henceforth, it is to be the Department of War. Mr. Hegseth enthusiastically endorsed the name change and, in truth, offensive as it may seem, his honesty is welcome. We may now officially drop any illusions we might have had that our military consists of citizen soldiers with a duty to defend the USA. They are now officially acknowledged as global 'war fighters.'

Further, Hegseth defines the purpose of his department as "maximum lethality, minimum tepid legality." Presumably he wants us to join him and celebrate backsliding into barbarity.

--- Excerpt from the CCI newsletter (CCI - Center for Citizen Initiatives)

Well we have been having over 500 years of barbarity in the US (and maybe 8000 years in the world in general) so it's not new, but it's still worrying that the pretense has been dropped

The White House Shared A Picture Of Donald Trump From The Charlie Kirk Memorial, And People Are...Noticing Some Things

Yesterday, a memorial was held for Charlie Kirk in Glendale, Arizona. President Trump attended and gave a speech.

During the event, the White House shared an image of the president standing in front of the crowd on their official Twitter (X) account with the caption, "This is the turning point."

For reference, the name of Charlie Kirk's organization is Turning Point USA.

Commenters were quick to reply, pointing out the black and white image's resemblance to this one taken in 1933:

Trump almost certainly owes his presidency to James Comey

One of the sickest ironies of Trump’s prosecution of Comey is that, without Comey, it is very unlikely that Trump would have become president in the first place.

Orange school cancels morning 'Witchy Wednesday' TV segment

West Orange High School was told to shut down its “Witchy Wednesday” televised morning announcement this week after a local Christian group complained the segment violated some students’ religious rights.

The Liberty Counsel complained to Orange County Public Schools that the broadcast made Christian students watch something that contradicted their beliefs. .

OCPS’s attorney agreed the segment contained “impermissible” religious content and told the school not to air it again.

The “Witchy Wednesday” segment, hosted by a student, discussed how moon phases can represent different chapters of life, how burning incense can “clear your surrounding energy” and described a ritual of writing “your intuition” on a piece of paper and burning it during the full moon

Sinclair "Special Report" depicts Kirk as prophet

Sinclair also pledged that it would "air a special in remembrance of Charlie Kirk this Friday, during Jimmy Kimmel Live’s timeslot." That program, produced by Sinclair's National News Desk, papers over Kirk's far-right political views. It does not mention that Kirk called the Civil Rights Act a "huge mistake," supported public executions, and blamed a host of the country's problems on "Jewish donors."

Instead, the Sinclair special depicts Kirk primarily as a religious and prophetic figure. "Charlie Kirk was known first and foremost for his faith in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ," news anchor Jan Jeffcoat says.

American Joins Delta, Southwest, United and Other US Airlines Push to Strip Away Travelers’ Rights and Add More Fees by Rolling Back Key Protections in New Deregulation Move - Travel And Tour World

This agenda centers on weakening or eliminating four major consumer protections:
  • Automatic Refunds for Cancellations: Airlines want to remove the requirement to provide automatic refunds when flights are cancelled or significantly altered. Passengers may instead receive only vouchers or no compensation at all, leaving them without recourse in the event of a major flight disruption.
  • Transparency of Fees: The airlines also aim to strip away rules that require them to disclose all fees (like baggage, seat assignments, and service charges) upfront. Instead of the clear, itemized pricing system that passengers currently rely on, airlines could hide fees until later in the booking process, making the true cost of a ticket much higher than expected.
    • Family Seating Guarantees: Under current regulations, airlines must ensure that families with young children are seated together without additional charges. This would no longer be guaranteed under the new proposal, meaning families could face extra costs just to sit next to one another.

  • Accessibility Protections for Disabled Passengers: The deregulation proposal also targets protections for disabled passengers, weakening their access to support and assistance during air travel.
