Something that, unfortunately, no one talks about in my country (Germany): Why aren’t existing public buildings ever retrofitted with solar panels, even during major renovations? The mostly multi-story apartment buildings in my neighborhood have roofs that are far too small and, in most cases, only tiny plots of land - too small to make the relatively costly installation of panels practical. This is in stark contrast to the often very large and well-oriented surfaces of public facilities.

I was told that they have a similar rule in New York State for new buildings, but politics and construction often don't work well with each other, meaning some smartass will find ways around it...

In some areas, we still are ahead of the curve. But Katherina Reiche, our currrent Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy, an energy lobbyist by trade is trying as hard as she can to kill or at least damage most of it.
