The "Learn to Code" push was always a push by the already wealthy to reduce labor costs by creating an artificial excess of tech workers. There never was a shortage of tech workers. It was always nothing more than a scam to reduce worker wages and to reduce job security.

@Isaac Kuo And THAT's what I was telling my students at my University in contradiction to the narrative we were being told to share. I was lecturing people who were training to be primary and secondary teachers. Business told the Federal Government that they needed more programmers. The Government then told my department that we were to teach that business needed more programmers. As someone who was not just living in an ivory tower, but actually had direct connections with the computing community, I knew this was inappropriate "information" we were told to pass on. Neither business nor Government had studies to back up their position.
